Thirty years ago, Otto and Leo Savo didn't just start a family business. They created an atmosphere where their children could learn, grow, prosper and hopefully continued what the Savo brothers set out to do. Dora Homes, named after their sister in Italy, has been building luxury custom homes on the South Shore since 1972.

Proud of their no-model trend, Otto's son Gino, the creative one, has worked with an architect as an apprentice for the last three years. Designing homes for his dad and uncle came after working in construction part time for years. His younger son Marco works in construction along with Leo's son, Leo junior. Both Leo and Marco are site managers for different projects. Behind the scenes are the daughters who worked part time for years and today run the office. Leo's daughter, Carina, graduated from Pace University with an accounting degree and went to work for Bear Stearns but left recently to work for her family. Otto's daughter, Sophia, who graduated from St.John's University with and accounting degree has been busy at home for the last five months with her newborn baby boy, but is anziously awaiting her return to the family business. With a staff of about 15, Dora Homes takes stress in stride. "Stress is easier to handle because it's family. The level of trust and work ethic is high," says Otto Savo with extreme confidence.

Both young and established families come to Dora Homes looking to build their dream home. Spas, custom kitchens, sitting areas and fireplaces are just some of the luxuries the Savo brothers can supply. "Most important thing is the personal touch; that's what makes the business grow," says Otto Savo of their work philosophy.
